The American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, and the American Dental Association all agree that children should visit the dentist by age 1.

Our first visit is designed to gain your child’s confidence and trust. We understand that each child is unique and we will provide your child with individualized attention. Everything will be carefully explained and each child participates in activities designed to help build their self-confidence. One of our highly trained team members will guide your child throughout this introduction using positive reinforcement, modeling, and age-appropriate language. During the first visit we will spend time with you and your child demonstrating the best tooth brushing and flossing techniques as well as discuss healthy food and snack choices. Dr. Yea and Dr. McCoy will review your child’s medical and dental history, prescribe only necessary digital x-rays, and discuss your child’s present dental needs and recommended treatment.

The Importance of Baby Teeth - A child’s first set of teeth, called baby or primary teeth, serve important functions in the growing child. Healthy baby teeth are critical for speech development, aesthetics, and the establishment of the child’s self image. They permit the child to maintain good nutrition, as teeth are essential to proper chewing. Baby teeth also guide the eruption and position of the permanent teeth, which in turn affects the growth and development of the face. This makes the prevention of dental decay in young children our primary concern.
